In the last 13 years Centralia/Chehalis area has experienced three 100 year flood events. The most recent occurred last Wed. & Thurs (Jan 7&8). These are pictures taken primarily at our church, thankfully the dike held (put in after the 1996 flood), and the church only had minor damage (wet carpet) in the downstairs Sunday school area. The cement circles that you see at the far edge of the dike are actually 3 foot high concrete posts. The area on the other side of the dike is the lower church parking lot. One of the many "sounds" of the flood are the Chinook helicopters flying overhead. We didn't have any flood damage at our house, however the water came within about three blocks. We made the decision to leave Wed. evening and stayed at my parents house, just in case. We certainly didn't want to wake up in the middle of the night to a Police Officer banging on our door telling us that we had to evacuate! Here is a link to some more flood pics taken by our local news paper.
